THE FOUNDATION

We lost our beloved Zack on June 5, 2010. Now we honor his legacy of kindness, enthusiasm, selflessness, leadership, and giving through the Zachary Gerald Knight Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We recognize these same traits in others and celebrate through annual awards to individuals at Severna Park High School and Anne Arundel Community College. Since the criteria we value cannot solely be measured in the classroom or on the field, we rely on input from community members, faculty, peers, and others who note positive behaviors, acts of kindness, and leadership traits in the nominee.

“I know what it is to need help, and now I know how to give it.”

About Zack

Zachary Gerald Knight, “Zack”, was born in Spring, TX on April 22, 1988.  He attended elementary and secondary school in Cheshire, CT.  He graduated from Severna Park High School in 2006 and attended Anne Arundel Community College prior to obtaining his business degree at Salisbury University in 2010.

Zack’s interests revolved around friendships.  Zack was loved for his kindness, enthusiasm, selflessness, and courage to take on leadership roles.  Zack loved people and he valued making them laugh. He was willing to try new experiences and lived each day fully, setting an example for making the most of each moment.

He was a sportsman, an athlete, and a friend to all. He enjoyed the outdoors, played lacrosse, soccer, and basketball while attending Severna Park High School.

While in college, Zack played club lacrosse and was a Founding Father/President of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity - Pi Sigma Chapter at Salisbury University.  He took great pride in building a legacy and was passionate about organizing Relay for Life events, which was a tribute to his mother, Barbara Connell Knight, who died of cancer in 1997.

Zack died June 5, 2010, of injuries sustained after being struck by a car. He is buried next to his mother in Cheshire, CT.

Zack is survived by his father, Gerald, step-mother, Sue, and two siblings, Katie and Haley.
